Are You a Creativity Queen?

June 6th, 2012

Creativity Queen, are you one? Well that’s a a big question to ask! Hmm…

As a Creativity Queen you:

listen to your inner creative longings and hear what your heart has to say,

take time to play and act silly, so much so that your loved ones roll their eyes in embarrassment,

lovingly speak your truth even when it feels super sucky,

listen with your soul to others and yourself,

laugh so hard things come out of your nose,

treat your body like it’s a friend and love even the parts you want to look away from,

remember that the only one you can please is yourself,

savor the really good things in life like the morning good-bye kisses and licking melted chocolate off of your fingers,

recharge in beauty, nature, sensuality, and solitude- coming back to center so you can connect with others more deeply,

know that creativity is more that making art and you flex your creative muscle throughout the day,

listen to the rhythms and cycles in your life, flowing and surrendering to what is and letting go of expectations and shoulds,

catch the mean bully in your mind saying bad things about you and tell it to take a hike,

you are wise enough to know better and compassionate enough to accept what is,

babies can’t help but smile at you, and animals want to follow you..

As a Creativity Queen you_______ (insert your creative goodness here:)

…so tell me dear sparkly soul sister are you a Creativity Queen?

Need to reconnect with your creative sparkly self?

Follow your bliss and help more clients

April 20th, 2011

I have a friend who has a million dollar therapy practice. Yup- a million dollar practice. Take a minute and soak that in and listen to what comes up for you. Just check-inside and take a minute on what beliefs and thoughts that statement may have triggered for you. Allow yourself to sit with that without any self-judgment, just pure awareness.

Now let me tell you some things about this friend- she is very humble and very giving. She doesn’t work more hours than a therapist making six-figure (maybe even less). She does not market- she never needed to. She is extraordinarily gifted at what she does and helps people heal. She’s likely no different than you or I, but she does one thing wholeheartedly, and that is she follows her bliss and every step was shown to her so she could help support her clients and create income flowing into her life.

What does it mean to follow your bliss? Here’s an excerpt from The Power of Myth:

“BILL MOYERS: Do you ever have the sense of… being helped by hidden hands?

JOSEPH CAMPBELL: “All the time. It is miraculous. I even have a superstition that has grown on me as a result of invisible hands coming all the time – namely, that if you do follow your bliss you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in your field of bliss, and they open doors to you. I say, follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be.”

So how can you follow your bliss and help more clients?

Here are a few tips to help you connect to the flow of bliss and start to tune into those invisible helping hands, so you can help more clients.

  1. Find out which of clients you work with leaves you feeling in alignment with bliss. Check-in with your energy after sessions and see which clients you feel a sense of uplifting connection with. These are the ones that you get excited about seeing when they are on your schedule. Start to see if there are similar qualities with those people whom you are seeing. For example, you notice that when you work with women who are healing from divorce and reclaiming their lives you feel a greater sense of fulfillment. This is an invisible hand pointing the way towards your bliss.
  2. If there are certain clients you enjoy supporting, then start to let others know. You may be a bit hesitant to claim a “specialization or niche” with a specific population, however, you can let people know you have a growing specialization with a specific population. For instance, “I help adults cope with change and anxiety, and I have a growing specialization with women who are recently divorced”. Follow your bliss and let others know whom you work with and how you can support them.
  3. Be curious and explore what expands your energy and contracts your energy, this will be the best barometer to help guide you on your blissful path.  If speaking to groups feels expansive, get the word out to your friends, network, and community groups that you’d like to speak. If it feels constrictive then explore what’s right for you- perhaps 1:1 lunch with a referral resource.
  4. If what you are doing is “sucking your joy”, then it’s time to do something different. We had some interesting conversations during one of the programs I was hosting about filing insurance claims.  The participants explored the costs of time and emotional energy involved; and they explored ways to let go of this task and move back into the blissful work they so enjoyed. Remember the solution focused tenant “once you know what works, do more of it: if it doesn’t work, do something different”. Where can you apply this in your business to help more clients?

Yet it is important to note that following one’s bliss, as Campbell saw it, isn’t merely a matter of doing whatever you like, and certainly not doing simply as you are told. It is a matter of identifying that pursuit which you are truly passionate about and attempting to give yourself absolutely to it. In so doing, you will find your fullest potential and serve your community to the greatest possible extent.

JOSEPH CAMPBELL: “If you follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. Wherever you are — if you are following your bliss, you are enjoying that refreshment, that life within you, all the time.”(Joseph Campbell Foundation)

Lessons from your closets: What do you need to let go of to move forward in your business?

March 9th, 2011

Take a minute and think about what you have in your closets and what you have in your drawers. Are they are stuffed full of things you don’t wear, or think or hope one day you’ll fit back into, or things you think you might need, someday. If they are super jammed packed, then there is likely no room to add anything to it.

Now, we can look around and start to see the patterns of our thinking reflected in our belongings. Look at your bookshelves, your garage, your car, your office, your kitchen cupboards. What are they saying about your ability to let go and create space for something new to evolve? Now take a minute and look at other areas of your life. Your email inbox (eek), your calendar, your to-do lists, your community commitments, your schedule, your child’s schedule. What does that look like? Is that crammed filled with activity, stuff, commitments?

Now take a minute and turn that energy inward. Are there unresolved grievances, anger, sadness, that are lingering. Is there blame, shame, and fear, self-doubt cluttering up your inner landscape. Do you have swirling thoughts, and critical chatter of critics and ‘shoulds”? Is your inner world packed and overflowing?

We as healers and helpers know that the outer world is just a reflection of the inner, that our closets are a reflection of our inner being.

It is so easy to step on the speed treadmill of “doing” and stay endlessly distracted with busyness and neglect to tend to our closets, garage, email inbox, inner mind and soul. No need to become critical with this awareness, instead lean into the awareness as an opportunity to explore what’s really going on with your closets, yourself, and your business.

You may want to ask yourself these questions and use some art to explore your responses:

  1. Why all the busyness? What’s the purpose of it? Decide what’s a priority, and let go of what’s not.
  2. Decide what you REALLY want. I ask those I speak with to tell me about how their days and weeks would look if they were doing what they loved. Most have never taken the time to get very specific on what they want, and instead they react, stay busy answering emails and phone calls randomly, responding to what comes up, rather than making a firm commitment towards their vision. If you don’t have a vision of what you are creating, then that’s the initial area you need to clear up some space and time to explore. Use some art materials and listen to you inner voice for guidance.
  3. What do you need to let go of? In order to create the space in the closet for all the new goodies you are adding you’ve go to let go of those leather pants you swore you’d someday fit into again. In your life there are some commitments and obligations that can be delegated or ditched, and some commitments no longer fit. Internally, there are some beliefs that no longer fit, such as your need to do it all by yourself, your need to know how before you act, your belief it needs to be perfect, your need to have a pretty website and brochure before you start to see more clients. These are hanging out like bad gold lame, it’s time to let go.

So pick one thing that you will focus on for this whole week; just one thing that you will let go of what no longer serves you (it can be personally or in business). Allow yourself to feel the fullness of what it means to let go of that and what might be triggered in the process.

Now before your brain launches into a story about, “Now I need to get this done”, or “I don’t even know where to start” or “See, I’m not good enough” or “I don’t have the time”, lovingly drop the story.

The Story…

There, you have just let go of what no longer fits.

Letting go creates space for what’s new to grow. Are you ready to learn how to transform your vision of helping more people into a passionate powerful and profitable business you LOVE?

Are you losing money right now? – Ouch!

January 12th, 2011

Do you know your practice has a cycle? Basically your practice has seasons in which there is a tremendous amount of action, and then times when you have a lull (and maybe some worries that it may not pick up again).

Well, I tracked it in my practice (month to month) and graphed it out over 5 years and saw that indeed it wasn’t my imagination; there were very clear patterns of business. I know intuitively you feel this in your work, even if you’re not tracking it. Here’s the thing, you may be losing money right now and you may not even be aware of it- Ouch!

Right now the New Year has begun and people are looking for ways to improve their relationships, change their behaviors, and all the accompanying emotions that comes with that (think of weight loss and emotional eating or smokers who use nicotine to self-soothe & self-regulate). So right now you are in the perfect position to offer your services as the “solution” to your client’s problems.

You see, as I tracked the clients I saw and there was a trend. Since I worked with children and families managing acting out/shutting down behaviors, it made perfect sense. When school began there was a slow period, and when the first progress reports were sent home I saw a jump up in the calls to my office. Again, the calls slowed during the holidays and summer found most families on vacation, with fewer arguments over homework, so it was pretty quiet. From January, until when school let out, each month progressively became more and more busy, and of course calls peaked when progress reports and report cards came out. Coincidence? I think not!

Here’s the thing. I knew my ideal clients (I so adore) pretty darn well, which means that I knew when to offer some type of group because there were more kids in need, and when to schedule my vacations (spring break), plus I knew when there were slow times (so I could offer another type of program to create income, or just take a break).

So do you know your clients well enough to know their needs, when they are motivated to get help, when your practice expands or contracts, and do you have a plan in place to make sure you are creating support for your clients needs during those times and creating income through these lulls?

You may be losing money right now if you have not gotten crystal clear on who you help, how you help them, and what they are looking for right now. For those of you who are “specialization” or “niche” resistant- enough!! It does not serve you!

So how do you stop losing money? Right now it is the time to get into action with your practice. People are hungry for changes, transformations, and help! So identify who your peeps are, what they are in need of, (and you need to get really specific here, not ‘feeling better’ or ‘happier’), and create an opportunity to help them.

This can be done in any type of healing work. For instance, I went to a complimentary women’s mediation group last weekend and almost 70 women were there to mediate. Pretty amazing energy in that room to say the least!

Anyway, the leader was graceful and supportive, and invited everyone in the room the opportunity to work with her. She perfectly positioned her services, and I’m certain she welcomed at least a dozen new people into her practice. Why, because she planned her group perfectly- right at the start of the new year, locating her ideal clients, and providing a specific way people could work with her next, and she had a continuity plan in place – All done with pure grace and ease, and no feeling what so ever of ‘selling’ anyone.

If you want to bring that feeling of grace and ease into your practice and welcome in clients in a way that’s right for you, then I invite you to join the Fill my Practice Now program. If you are looking for a way to pay for the program, I’ll show you how you can earn your money back and welcome in new clients immediately. Seriously, I’m going to teach you how you get off the call and how you can have new clients that evening. If you want to be on that call (and believe me you do), you must register by MIDNIGHT TONIGHT (EST) to receive this exclusive bonus! Claim your spot now!
